Gig Report: May 5, 2007
West Wall headlined the Beltaine Black Metal Assault on Saturday, May 5, at the sold-out American Legion in Creve Couer, Illinois--the band's first live performance since the release of its debut album, Blitzkrieg Symphony #1. West Wall treated the assembled masses to 10 songs, including all eight from the band's debut release and an as-yet untitled new track to be featured on West Wall's sophomore release, due out later this year.
West Wall took the stage at approximately 8:30 p.m., following the performances of three supporting acts, and promptly launched into "Titan's March," immediately igniting the energy of the crowd. As the band played each song from its 2006 release, "Over the Maginot," "Iron Fist," and "Panzer Voran" received extended ovations from the enthusiastic crowd.
The band ended the evening with a cover of "To Untamed Lands We Sail," prompting the crowd to sing along as Shane growled the lyrics to one of battle metal's most legendary songs. As the house lights faded in and the show came to a close, the band mingled with fans, posing for photographs and discussing West Wall's upcoming release.
